The first time people from the Shell Clan were displayed was in Breath of Fire II, where one of its members, Rand, was also a member of Ryu's party.
Their visual appearance is designed to resemble armadillos, although I personally always thought that they look somewhat like armored horse people.
It is not known where the Shell Clan people come from, they are only rarely seen around the world. There is Rand in Breath of Fire II, Fahl in Breath of Fire III and sometimes they are shown as part of larger crwods.
Fahl can also serve as a master and train certain party members.
Other than that, Shell people are respected because of their strength, but unlike Highlander or Dark Dragon clansfolk, they do not strive for power or influence.
