Sephiroth

In the games

You know, I really have a habit of doing things in a way that usually people don't do. I sometimes call this "Fear of having to participate" - and of course, I didn't chose the most famous "Sephiroth" as a teaser for this image, but rather "Sephirot".

Sephirot was introduced in Final Fantasy VI as one of the strongest enemies - although here he was just called "Fiend" (Or, in Japanese, Sefilos). He is one of the Warring Triad, gods that fought for an eternity and enslaved humans with special powers in their armies - the so-called Espers. They turned into stone after seeing how much destruction and pain they caused and decided to free the Espers. This Sephirot was re-introduced again in Final Fantasy XIV some years later.

And then of course is Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, the famous antagonist who was born as part of a cruel experiment with Mako, the worlds' source of energy. He was designed to be a super-human, or a super soldier for the evil ShinRa corporation.

In the real world

Sephiroth is the plural of the hebrew word "Sephira", which means "Number". Sephiroth are ten aspects of the Kabbalah, a form of Jewish mysticism and are part of the Tree of Life. They are not ten different gods, but reather meant as ten different ways of how God can be presented to humans.

Together, then ten Sephiroth are the representation of the divine human - Adam Qadmon. This is the human that all humans are created after, so in a way or another, this is the prime human and also a representation of God himself.

Conclusion

If viewed that way, the name "Sephiroth" in Final Fantasy VII fits the legend more than the form shown in VI or XIV.
